Caledonian Club

Engaging with communities

The Caledonian Club is Glasgow Caledonian University’s multi-award winning widening participation and community engagement initiative, working across our local communities in Glasgow, London and New York.

In order to tackle below average progression rates into Higher Education, the Caledonian Club challenges perceived barriers to progression, providing positive and rewarding experiences within a higher education setting.

Our guiding principle

We are committed to the communities we serve. We champion education and help children, young people and families to reach their potential.

What we do

We work across four core programme areas; arts and language, transition future aspirations and enterprise and all of our efforts are focused towards:

  • Raising aspirations in young people and families
  • Building life skills in club members and student mentors
  • Enhancing the school curriculum with unique learning opportunities

How we do it

  • We work in five communities across Glasgow and one in London
  • We work with children from 3 to 18 years and their families
  • Our student mentors provide positive role models
  • We deliver project-based activity in-school and on campus

Our communities

We provide experiences, information and guidance to our partner communities. Our work is made possible with the help of mentors. Many of our mentors come from within our partner communities and provide positive role models to our members.

Support us

Without the support of organisations such as the Robertson Trust, RS MacDonald Charitable Trust, Dr Rhona Reid Charitable Trust, Morgan Stanley International Foundation, New Park Educational Trust and Crerar Hotels Trust we would not be able to support communities and families in this way. We also rely on individual donations and volunteers.
